CHOCO STALL AT THE MALL
Kids in superhero and macabre costumes were all over the mall trick-or-treatin'. I, however, was not and decided to just treat myself to something sweet. It was when I saw Cacao, the lone chocolate stall on the bridge way of Megamall.

There were lots of products to choose from. For a not-so-chocolate lover, I was not about to zone out. All I had to do was zero in on comfort flavors so I ended up buying just a piece of a dark chocolate (Php34) and a so-called Mint Melt Away (Php37) since I fancy anything minty in taste. To secure my mint week snack, I also bought a box of the 28-piece Andes Mint Parfait Thins (a smooth blend of mint and chocolate flavors; Php165). The mint-choco product is most famous for its three-layered piece with the chocolate as top and bottom and the mint in the middle. What I bought, instead, is its inverted version wherein the mint flavor covers the two layers with the chocolate in the middle.

What I like about Cacao is its location. I'm neutral when it comes to chocolates (unlike sushi for which I have a declared aversion), so I don't mind eating a piece or two once a week. The chocolate stall is just perfect for my daily route from work and weekly mall activities.

It's only this year that I get to sample on various kinds of snacks and desserts that I've never encountered in my entire life. While passing the time at the mall I decided to grab a cream puff before boarding the FX taxi on my way home.
Picture
First of all, I didn't know what a cream puff was until I checked it out at Beard Papa's, the stall selling it. It's been there for so long that I just had to pay attention once and for all. As my second point, I can't eat and walk just like anybody else I know. I have to take my food sitting down.

Cream puff, I learned, is a pastry that's got the filling of whipped cream. And that's what I munched on from the stall, all throughout the mall ground floor, all the way to the taxi line. The good thing about it was that the cream puff is certifiably a good to-go sweet snack.

Ice Cream Mix
As part 2 of last Sunday's buffet battle, this is a short feature on the crazy desserts I had over at YakiMix Restaurant.

There were trays of fruit salad, fresh fruits, gallons of various ice cream flavors and even cupcakes. All of which I didn't try except for the fruit salad and the ice cream. I had scoops of vanilla ice cream and sprinkled them with every sweetener I saw on the selection -- marshmallows, chocolate bits, etc. And, oh, I also went back to my table with a slice of ube cake and a mini-slice of strawberry cheesecake.

I craved for ice cream one Sunday morning, but ended up eating Starbucks' new Blueberry Cheesecake. It was 3 days ago since Starbucks launched it with other delightful looking cafe confections. A slice of one was fun sharing with two college classmates who brought with him a Persian cat and a wildfire who was peddling honey. Confused? You'll read more about them here in other posts...

My eyes are set on Very Vanilla, Coconut Kreme, Lemon and Tiramisu in that order.

I am not really a dessert kind of guy. I just love to take bites out of cake slices or munch a few polvoron or meringue or yema once in a while, but to go after boulders of ice cream cake or tear into a bowl-filled fruit salad is not really my thing. I tend to get bored with the sweetness.

What I've acquired from my dad, I believe, is a fancy for ice cream. The weird thing only is that for the past few years I've never really gotten around to eating flavors other than vanilla. I dislike chocolate because it reminds me of boisterous children's party kids with choco moustaches (a.k.a. bully classmates who were invited to your birthday). Vanilla reminds me of the time when I was eating ice cream on a Sunday morning at Jollibee after church. Sundae without the chocolate syrup. Strictly just vanilla. Pristine white. Heaven after a good homily.

When I recently found out on Late Night With Conan O'Brien that Krispy Kreme-New York was testing their ice cream product for the area's patrons, I got interested. This was despite his monologue about Krispy Kreme wanting their customers to die soon for making them obese (chuckles). I've got no problem with that.

What if I started opening myself to the wonderful flavors of ice cream? I do like their doughnut treats anway, even their array of coffee concoctions. Why not Krispy Ice Kreme?

Unfortunately, I can't.... yet.... as it's still being tested in the US. Much like Starbucks' instant coffee VIA, Krispy Ice Kreme may not even reach our shores. The company has not even placed it as an upcoming product in their local web site. Oh, well, here's to wishing for the best. In the meantime, I'm going to stare at the ice cream flavors that their international web site is offering...
